Where IS Harstine Island?

Harstine Island is the second largest island in Puget Sound - about 15 miles long and 3 miles wide. The island is largely forested, with a scattering of homes mainly around the perimeter.
The largest community on the island is Hartstene Pointe at the northern tip - which is where our home is located.

DIRECTIONS

 

 

FROM SEATTLE
(or the North)

Three Choices:

Ferry from Seattle to Bremerton.

  • Take Route 3 South towards Shelton.
  • Go through Allyn, and turn left on Pickering Road towards Jarrell's Cove about 10 miles S. of Allyn, just past the 11-mile marker. 
  • As you approach the bridge, Pickering Rd. turns to the right.  You should stay left on the main road and follow the signs to the bridge and Harstine Island.  
  • Cross the Bridge to Harstine Island; turn left at end of road.
  • Follow Road North 4 1/2 miles to Hartstene Pointe Gate, enter Access Code which will ring our telephone, and enter when we have opened the gate.
  • Turn left at clubhouse, then quick left again on Promontory Road. House is around the first circle at 730 Promontory Road

Ferry from Fauntleroy to Southworth
(Fauntleroy is in S. Seattle)

  • Take Route 16 N., past Gig Harbor, to Route 3
  • Turn left, Take Route 3 South towards Allyn and Shelton
  • Go through Allyn, and turn left on Pickering Road towards Jarrell's Cove about 10 miles S. of Allyn, just past the 11-mile marker. 
  • As you approach the bridge, Pickering Rd. turns to the right.  You should stay left on the main road and follow the signs to the bridge and Harstine Island.  
  • Cross the Bridge to Harstine Island; turn left at end of road.

Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Drive South to Tacoma, and take Tacoma Narrows Bridge at the Rt. 16 Exit.

  • Take Route 16 N., past Gig Harbor, to Route 3
  • Turn left, Take Route 3 South towards Allyn and Shelton

FROM PORTLAND (or the South)

  • Take I-5 North to Exit 104 near Olympia
  • Route 101 towards Shelton
  • Take first Shelton Exit (Route 3) and follow through town, continuing North towareds Bremerton
  • Just past mile 10, turn right on Pickering Road towards Jarrell's Cove State Park (watch for sign)
  • As you approach the bridge, Pickering Rd. turns to the right.  You should stay left on the main road and follow the signs to the bridge and Harstine Island.  
  • Cross Bridge to Harstine Island; turn left at end of road.
  • Follow Road North 4 1/2 miles to Hartstene Pointe Gate, enter Access Code which will ring our telephone, and enter when we have opened the gate.
